Meet the Vice President: 2020-2021

NYC UXPA announces the new Vice President for the 2020-2021 cycle:

Vice President:

Richard Lam

UX Auditor, Baymard Institute

Statement:

I am a Canadian, recently relocated to New York, currently practicing UX for a Denmark-based web usability research firm. As a UX Auditor at Baymard Institute, I consult with large-scale e-commerce companies to provide prioritized user experience improvement recommendations to their site by performing data-driven heuristic analyses, backed by a decade’s worth of quantitative user testing insights.

Prior to this, I worked in The City of Calgary’s neighborhoods division, supporting seven volunteer community boards by providing strategic oversight, business planning, event and engagement coordination, and grant writing support. I also regularly facilitated internal training sessions so that new board members could understand their bylaws, financial statements, and build their own committees and succession plans, resulting in a stronger organizational foundation and ensuring continuity as the board and community evolved and grew.

In addition to this, I completed the General Assembly User Experience Design Immersive Program in 2019, and have served on various non-profit boards and committees in the past. Serving as Board President of a local theatre awards gala, we were able to turn around a 4-year trend of decreasing attendance and increase revenue by 20% by negotiating a new event venue, format, and ticket price.

With NYC UXPA, I hope to bridge my UX experience with my past board expertise via the Vice President role. I would love to help provide a framework of education and structure for the board to flourish in, offer a foundational support that can propel the vision of the President and chapter initiatives, and subsequently help build an engaged hub for networking and peer support for UXPA members and New York’s UX community at large.
