Changing Your Career to UX

Join us for an online conversation with a panel of career changers from various backgrounds, who made their way into UX Research and Design.

We will kick things off by hearing their stories, as well as a few questions about how and why they made their switch into UX, then open it up to attendees for a Q&A.

Meet our Panelists:

Swati Nikumb

Swati Nikumb is a UX Researcher who transitioned into the UX field after working for 3 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist. While working in healthcare, she realized that assistive devices designed to help patients communicate, did not work well and were not designed with the end user in mind. To make the career change, Swati chose to learn about UX research and design on her own, using online resources, books and by creating her own projects. Currently, Swati works as a UX Researcher at UserZoom and also volunteers as a UX researcher for two non-profit organizations. You can learn more about Swati and her work on her website.

Kellie Porter

Kellie Porter has been a UX Designer, Full-Stack Web Developer, and Technical Instructor for the past 3 years. She has a passion for education and the advancement of information accessibility with her products being designed to make users feel confident in the decisions that they make. When not at work, Kellie is an avid reader of comic books, lover of horror movies and mixed martial arts fan. Find Kellie on LinkedIn.

Wesley Ham

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, seasoned in Brooklyn. I have been making photographs and teaching young people whatever I have learned on my path. I did not have the opportunity to learn how to be creative as a young person, so I try to share my experiences with young students whenever I can, and it has become one of my greatest joys. My new journey has me pursuing UX/UI Design, and I am just as committed to a positive exchange with people through design. Find Wesley on Instagram, Dribble and LinkedIn.

Michael Suen

Michael is the founder and director of Weirdo Design, a collaborative design studio helping brave founders discover product/market fit. He is an adjunct professor at City University of New York and the co-founder of SwitchUp, an online platform that connects students to immersive education programs (acquired by Optimal, 2018). Raised in Hong Kong and educated in Vermont, Michael now lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife Lanya, two cats, one dog, and four video game consoles. Find Michael on Twitter.
